Originally conceived as a ‘Museum for the Christian World’, the building now houses several smaller collections. The Children’s Gallery is a cultural centre that makes art and cultural history accessible to children and young people. The Münzkabinett, the coin collection, houses a permanent exhibition of over 50,000 coins from the Middle Ages to the present day. The Museum of Ancient Antiquities and Byzantine Art contains pieces from 3rd-19th century Russia, Asia Minor, Greece and Eygpt. An extensive collection of sculpture includes works from the Prussian Kunstkammer Collection, which have been housed in the Bode Museum ever since the Berliner Schloß was demolished by East German authorities.
